Jeep: Jeep stuck in 4WD, jeep cherokee, squeals

Hey there, I have a '94 Jeep Cherokee, 4.0 petrol and auto.  I  engaged 4WD on it this morning for the first time since we have had it, and now I don't seem to be able to get it back into 2WD.  The "Part Time 4WD" light on the dash stays on no mattter what I select on the lever.  It also appears that the differential has locked up, as it hates turning and squeals the tires.  There is also a horrible grinding/whining noise coming from underneath somewhere. How do I get it back into 2WD??  Cheers!

Check the transfer case linkage and see if it is working freely.  It sounds like the linkage is hung between 2wd and 4wd.  You may be able to keep working the linkage and free it up.  you may need to take it to a shop where they can lift it up and check the linkage.  Hope I can help you!
