Jeep: 93 Jeep Wrangler, valve cover gasket, wrangler yj

Question
93 Wrangler YJ 189,000+ miles, 4.0 6cyl auto, no a/c. 2 things: 1) when first started (whether cold or warm doesn't matter) it revs really high 3rpm or so as if I stepped on gas, then comes down after couple of seconds, what can cause this and is it an easy fix? 2) I have changed valve cover gasket, oil change recently, replaced oil and trans cooler lines, recent trans service with new gasket, and there is still a leak, I notice moisture on lip of t-case, can it be main seal? And is this an easy to do at home job? I have most of the tools for the vehicle that are needed and access to lift, also drive up ramps. I have taken excellent care of my baby and do most of the services myself, whenever I take it somewhere seems like something else "magically" goes wrong after I leave. I hope you can help me out. I also have all major parts stores around. Thanks, Carol.

Answer
The high idle souds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere, check all of the vacuum lines on top of the motor, especially the ones coming out of the intake.  The rubber in the lines is bad to break down and leak.  The seal between the transfercase and the transmission could be bad.  They are not bad to do just seperate the transfer case from the transmission and replace the seal and gasket between them.
