Question -
I have a '99 Wrangler Sport with about 75K miles. At appoximately 55 m.p.h. I have a vibration in the front end that seems to fade at higher speeds. If I hit a bump at 55 it gets much worse and decelerating to 55 is also worse than accelerating. I had a broken left stabilizer bar and the new one that I installed also broke, most likely from this shimmy. Rotated tires but no difference. Any suggestions?

Answer
I answered the question and will try to remember what I said.
The shimmy is nothing more than a vibration that gets out of hand and is always caused by improper wheel alignment, worn or damaged front end components like tie rid ends, ball joints, a cracked frame, broken steering box mounts, etc. and should be looked at immediately by a front end (alignment) shop.  It might be as simple as the front end is out of alignment or a complex as a bent frame but you will never know until you have someone look at it.
The broken stabilizer would have been my first clue.  Whatever broke that probably broke something else.
