Tips on Buying Cars: selling car, jim sears, smog test

Jim, I have a 99 toyota that needs engine work. In Cal. seller is supposed to do smog check prior to selling. Can I still sell a car 'As is' with the buyer taking on putting in new engine, and doing the smog check? thx...

Yes you can. Be certain that you not on the bill of sale, That the vehicle is being sold AS-Is and that the buyer is assuming responsibility to pass the smog test. Make sure you keep a copy. This is legal to do, as long as you disclose to the customer, that the vehicle will not pass. Thanks and best of luck--Jim Sears
