Tips on Buying Cars: How long will this truck last?, front wheel bearing, ford explorers

Question
I just bought a 1993 Ford Explorer with 188K miles.  I had a prepurchase inspection- most reccomendations were for basic maintenance based on the mileage-which the owner had done some of them. They also reccomended a left rear adjusting kit, front wheel bearing and the removal of a nail in a tire and then patching it up.  Everything else is great, I paid $1150 for the vehicle based on these reccomendations. Do you think the vehicle will last for the next year/12k miles?

Answer
ive worked on alot of early 90s ford explorers....the main things that goes wrong are transmissions, suspension(ball joints steering u-joints)and gas and brake lines rusting out and breaking....if its a 4.0 engine that has been well taken care of it should last for 200k as long as you dont beat on it...see if the transmission fluid is dark brown or black....this is a good sign that the fluid was rarely if ever changed...its hard to say if it will last...it has A lot of miles on it.....just check how clean the fluids are to see if the maintenance was done on it...thats the best way to see the condition of things...
