Tips on Buying Cars: Buying a car, ford excursion, crossover suv

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a 2003 ford excursion limited edition that I'm looking to sell or trade in. We found that for how much we drive it, the mpg, and gas prices, it really isn't worth keeping. We looked on Kelley blue book and saw it was worth around 12,000 dollars. Now we have a trailer that we use for hauling lawn mowers and snowmobiles and other stuff like that so we need another truck or car that can haul that. We also have a farm we go to on the weekends sometimes and we need a car or truck that can hold a dog kennel, cooler, and lots of supplies and various other belongings. We want something that gets around 25 or so mpg and will be able to haul all of our stuff, we also need room for at the minimum three or four. Which cars would you recommend we look at? Thanks in advance

ANSWER: Joe:Since you did not mention on how much towing weight will be involved, this will answer the question what type of car or truck. If the towing capacity is 3,500 lbs or less consider a crossover SUV,like the Chevy Traverse,Buick Enclave. These cars are 3.6L V-6,which should deliver the gas mileage and transport 6 or 7 people. .However, all others trucks or suvs may not get the gas mileage, but delivers more towing.

Also keep in mind your Ford Excursion is built on a 3/4 truck platform, which why YOU are getting poor mpg.And most cars(not truck or suvs)are not meant to be towed.I hope this helps little.Good luck! Don

QUESTION: I'm not sure how much I tow usually, the heaviest thing I tow is two snowmobiles if that can give you an idea of how much weight I have to haul. I checked out the Buick enclave and the Chevy traverse and both models cost around 20,000 dollars used. Would you know of any other type of suv or truck that might be a little more affordable, considering a trade in for my excursion is only worth about 12,000 dollars? Thanks again

Answer
Joe:Sorry for the delay. With your follow up answer,to meet your gas requirements and the cargo you require,it is possible to consider a Mini-van.The best vans are Toyota, and Honda. And maybe a Dodge, they will tow 3,500 lbs also considering they all are V-6s Don
