Tips on Buying Cars: Buying a Cool Car, first car, cool car

Question
I am currently 16 years old. My mother is crazy about safety and refuses to buy any car that doesn't have perfect safety ratings. I have been searching for a car that I like and also meets her standards. I found a Chevrolet Camaro. Now I have explained to her that a new camaro is the same price as my sister's new subaru legacy. I showed her that they have perfect safety ratings, and they even weigh 3800 lbs (she wants a heavy car, but not a big suv). I have played every card that I have to convince her, and her only defense is that its too sporty. I get very good grades, take very challenging class, am in NHS and Boy Scouts. My dad is fine with me getting it, but my mom refuses.
Do you have any ideas to convince her to get me the camaro now or at least some time in the near future? What are some ways you would convince a parent when trying to sell a car?

Answer
Hi Michael,
Great about your studies and grades. As far as a Camaro for a 16 year old, that is a tough one! I commend you for the research you are putting in. You will not like my answers, but I will will give anyway. I feel for a 16 year old I would go with something like a Honda Civic, or Accord. I would prefer a 4 door car since it is rated better on insurance. Safety wise both are A +. If they are definitely ok with somewhat sporty, an Acura TSX is a great choice. I will be happy to answer any other questions you have, but I hope you will understand my position, I have 2 sons now ages 19 and 23, and truthfully I would never consider a Camaro as a first car, maybe a second or third a few years down the road :)  Good Luck to you!!
