Tips on Buying Cars: Buying a Used G35 Coupe, infiniti g35 coupe, infiniti g35

Question
QUESTION: Ray,

First off, I've read your site www.usedcartips.org and I'd like to thank you for all the great info provided on there. I've learned a lot of new things on just my first read alone.

I'm looking for a used Infiniti G35 coupe and have found the following:

- 2005/75,000kms/$18,900
- 2006/94,100kms/$17,995
- 2005/121,000kms/$16,995

My question is this: are these prices fair value for their respective years and mileage(kms) used? Are there any red flags?

Thank you in advance,

Shaun

ANSWER: Hi Shaun.

Thanks for your kind words, I wish everybody like you would take a little time to study the process buying a car instead of me having to answer questions how to get out of a jam.

Your choice of vehicle is excellent, provide me with a postal code or even better a link, and I will check for fair price and/or red flags

QUESTION: Ray,

My postal code is L1R 3A2 and below are the links where you can find the cars mentioned above:

1) http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Infiniti/G/SCARBOROUGH/Ontario/5_10116640_ON200906151

2) http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Infiniti/G/TORONTO/Ontario/5_8861829_ON20071121105641

3) http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Infiniti/G/TORONTO/Ontario/5_9507652_ON20080109100346

I've been told that a 2007 for under $20,000 and under 100,000kms likely has been in an accident or has a salvage claim. Is there any truth to this?

Thanks again,

Shaun

ANSWER: I only bothered to phone the first mentioned since it had in it's disclaimer mentioned a $1000. cash back up front - it really ticks me how many consumers read this and not the rest of statement to find out it only applies to " if " Anyhow this vehicle was bought at the dealer auction, the salesman not having the Car Proof records in front could not confirm how many owners.

To make a long story short with my 2 finger typing,,, these vehicle's are most likely lease returns, that means the Nissan dealer has first pickings, but did not bite.

That does not mean it could be a bad investment " but caution " after test drive, and you fall in love, it will be conditional you having it inspected by a Nissan dealer close by.

As for buying an extended warranty,,, it's out of the question from these dealerships - another subject we can get into another day.

Ray

PS,,, Your statement about accident or salvage,,, simply ask for a Car Proof " thats true Canadian,,, if dealer don't provide you walk " Carfax and AutoCheck  works best American.

QUESTION: Ray,

Can I assume that any car not sold through a Nissan/Infiniti dealership is a lease return that the dealership didn't want?

I will keep a close eye and ear on each car I test drive but to summarize:

- Ask for Car Proof for number of owners, walk if none provided.
- Test drive
- Fall in love
- Have car inspected by outside professional. NOT just a brief "once over" but a full inspection.

Also, I spoke with my bank and was pre-approved for a loan but their interest rates are fairly high. I just wanted something to negotiate with incase the seller offers lower interest rates.

Shaun

Answer
Yes with a lease returns a franchise dealership has first choice.

As for Car Proof,,, look for re-calls and a clean bill of health.

Yes make deal subject to independent inspection " by a Nissan Dealer only " they have the proper equipment to detect hidden issues,,, whatever it cost it will be peanuts compared to your layout and peace of mind
