Tips on Buying Cars: Rebates, kia optima, optimas

Hi Danny,

I recently purchased a 2008 Kia Optima.  I actually picked the car up on November 30th but didn't complete financing papers until a week later.  I just made my first car payment and I heard a commercial advertising $10,000 off new Optimas giving the starting price as $11,000.  I am financed roughly $14,000 plus $1,000 I put down.  The new price is substantially lower and it has only been 1 month.  Is there anything I can do?  My financing is through a local credit union, not Kia.

Unfortunately no, if you already made a payment, then that means your car has been titled, the deal is done. Timing is everything, anyway you probably did good on your purchase, the large discounts usually aren't there or they are for a very basic car or you have to stand on your head to get it. You will see even larger discounts and ads as 2009 moves on, you made a good deal I'm sure.
