Tips on Buying Cars: Power of attorney for title and license plate application, license plate application, power of attorney

Question
Hi.  I wanted to find out if it is standard practice to sign a power of attorney to have the dealer apply for your title and license plate.  The power of attorney is specifc to the application, transfer, of a title.

Answer
S,

Thanks for your question.  This is required by law.  It is not only a common or standard practice.  It is required by law that they have a signed power of attorney.  All states require it, and use it.  The Power of Attorney like you said, is only for use of the application for title, or transfer of ownership.  It is can not be used for anything else.

Hope this helps.

Thanks - JB
