Tips on Buying Cars: first time buyer, service loaners, toyota yaris

Question
I want to buy a vehicle, I was told its best to get a demo, so I want to know the advantages & disadvantages of a demo as compared to just getting a new car. I want a small vehicle like the mazda 2 or toyota yaris.

Answer
Maud,

Thanks for your question.  The decision of whether to get a demo or not is always a big decision for the consumer.  It simply depends on the dealership.  Most dealerships these days do not "write down" their demos, where as they used to write them down a couple thousand dollars for being a demo. Most just take the loss these days. They do not write them down.  Most demos are driven by dealership employees or loaned out by the service departments of the dealerships as service loaners while the customers car is in the service department.  Really the decision is up to you.  If you think that car is in good shape and its a good deal, then go for it.  Understand that most dealerships can give you the same deal on a new car if they want to, but they are more likely to give you a better deal on the demo just to get it off their lot.

Hope this helps.
