Tips on Buying Cars: Spur of the moment regret., kia rio, mail problems

Question
I recently saw a used KIA Rio at a car lot and put down a partial downpayment to"hold" the car. I am supposed to pay the rest of the downpayment within 30 days. I am currently not in possession of the car and have only paid $250 of the $2150 which is the full down payment. I have since read reviews of this car online and have changed my mind. Can I get my money back. The only paper I signed is the paper with the down payment schedule. Can I be forced to buy this car? I am willing to part with the $250 if I'm going to avoid buying a car I do not want. Please help. I live in WA state.

Answer
I apologize for taking so long to respond, but I've been having some computer and e-mail problems.  You could walk away from this (you didn't pay enough up front to make this a legal, enforceable contract) and lose your $250, but I would at least try to get it back.  Talk to the dealer and explain the situation; if you really need a vehicle, maybe they have something other than the Kia they could sell you instead.  If they don't have anything you like, and refuse to refund your deposit, then resort to harsher tactics. If you paid with a check, stop payment on it.  If you used a credit card, contact your bank.  If you paid cash, well... not much you can do in that situation.  Good luck.
