Tips on Buying Cars: car expense!, crash test ratings, pegeout 106

Question
hey their buddy!
i'm 18 years old, passed my test about 3 months ago, i'm insured on a 1.1
fiesta 1992, and its almost completely dead, most small cars i'm looking to
replace are absolutely horrendous to insure!!

e.g. a 1.1 pegeout 106, £2390

i can't find anything under £2000!

is this due to the particular car? or just the fact that i'm too young?

what sort of car would you suggest i would get?
i'm not after anything pretty, just A-B will do me.

regards, David.

Answer
David,

Thanks for your question.

The price of your insurance really has little to do with the vehicle.  Now with that said, it does have to do with crash test ratings and insurance safety ratings on the vehicle, so in your search, make sure you look at that and find the vehicle that has the highest insurance rating score.  What you are seeing is mainly due to your age.  You are an 18 year old male driver.  This is a very high risk for insurance companies to insure.  You won't see a drop in your insurance until you hit the age of 25 or so.

You won't see a major change in the insurance cost on any vehicle simply because you are a very young driver, and with that brings a lot of risk for the insurance companies.  I am sure you have done so, but if you havent, shop your insurance company against other insurance companies and see if that helps any.

Hope this helps.
