Tips on Buying Cars: Rebate, invoice, rebates

Question
I went to a Jeep dealer to price a Jeep Liberty. The sales person told me the price of the Jeep, then figured the taxes, then took off the rebate. I said they should take the rebate off the price of the Jeep, then figure the taxes. She said all dealers do it that way. I figured it out and I really did not get even close to the rebate they claimed to give. Whos right? Also I'm a chrysler retiree. The last time I purchased a Chrysler car I did not have to pay destination now she says I have to. Am I being taken for a ride? Thank you for any help.

Answer
Hi Randy, You should go to another dealer. All dealers don't figure it like that.

I'm not sure about your destination charge. I would negotiate that. Find the invoice cost of the vehicle, (ask to see the invoice)subtract the rebate and destination and offer them that figure.

They will do just about anything to sell a vehicle right now!
