Tips on Buying Cars: new car, hail damage, car business

Question
I just bought an '09 camry.  I have already signed the papers but the car wasn't ready for me to take home that day they still needed to install leather seats.  The day after I signed the papers there was a storm and the car received hail damage.  They are going to fix the damage.  Do I still have to buy this car just because I signed the papers?

Answer
Gina,

reposession not!  You do not have a deal with the dealership until you take delivery of the vehicle.  Once you have taken delivery of that vehicle, you are what we in the car business refer to as "an owner".  Until that point, the dealership owns that vehicle.  If you have taken that car off of their property AFTER you signed the paperwork, then you don't have a leg to stand on, however it you have not taken that vehicle off their lot AFTER you signed paperwork, they are the owner.  They will try to scare you into it, saying that you will have a repossession on your credit and various other things, but the law clearly states that YOU do not own that vehicle until you take delivery of that vehicle AFTER you sign the paperwork.

I hope this helps.
