Which AWD vehicle gets the best gas mileage? And what is the gas mileage?

Sorry for the late reply, I have been out of town on business. I thought I had set the vacation dates with the allexperts website, but apparently did something wrong.

Well.. This is a little too broad... are you thinking of new AWDs? or within the last few years atleast? SUV or car? diesel or gas? I know a few cars were 4WD or AWD in the mid 80's - ran on diesel - and got great fuel economy. Of course newer AWD's wont ever get great fuel mileage - its the nature of the beast... 4 wheels turning + more weight = lesser fuel mileage.

Without looking up the fuel estimates for every AWD car made within the last 10 years.. I will tell you that the subaru impreza gets pretty good fuel mileage 20-25MPG - which isn't bad for an AWD.. the 330xi BMW also got a little under 20MPG.. the AWD Audi's all did around 20MPG... some of the larger ones are substantially lower.. I know the AWD ford escape gets 25 or so.. But keep in mind.. actual MPG and the EPA estimates are usually WAY off...
