Tips on Buying Cars: 04 Audio A4 Quatro, audi a4 quatro, salvage title

Question
I went to a dealer yesterday absolutely LOVED this car, however it has a rebuilt title. Its an '04 Audi A4 Quatro with $36K and they are selling it for $14,900. I might be able to work this price down. However I'm wondering if this is a good deal. It was in a front end crash, didn't touch the engine/transmission all that is the same, just the radiator had to be replaced and the front bumber had to be rebuilt. It has passed all the inspection needed to have it be a rebuilt title. I drove it and it handled wonderful, better then others I drove that weren't rebuilt titles. What do you suggest?

Answer
I personally avoid rebuilt titles (good deals or not) - unless it is a track car used for racing.. or maybe a weekend vehicle you just want to throw some money into. The reason is.. you never know what will happen. The car could have been put back together perfectly.. or.. something might have been damaged that wont show up until months down the road. The risk is too large for me personally. If the crash was just minimal - the title would still be clear. Some sort of severe damage was there for the car to have a salvage title in the first place. The car will be very hard to resell if you ever wanted to sell it. I have seen very few vehicles get rebuilt that werent in some way different. Sometimes minor problems occur, sometimes major... but I personally wouldn't gamble with 15000 dollars. Just be careful because the dealer will be quick to sweet talk you into believing its just as good as new... they are trying to sell you the car, and they will tell you everything they legally can to get you to buy it. Rebuilt cars are a tough sell - and I'm sure they really want to get rid of it.. but you could very easily be buying a BIG headache.. and guess what? that 2004 Audi will cost you ALOT of money if and when something does go wrong. I say avoid it.
