Tires: Wheel Nuts, wheel nuts, lug bolt

Question
Hi Barry,

I know this is not part of what you cover, but I'll try my luck anyway.

I have a 2011 Nissan Murano SL. I just bought a set of winter tires and wheels that were used for a 2009 Mazda CX-9. They have the same specification, but my only problem is that the holes for the wheel nuts of the purchased rims are a bit smaller in diameter. When I use my Nissan nuts, the key is too fat to get into the holes. It appears I'll need some special nuts for this.

I guess my question is: Can I use the Mazda CX-9 nuts for my Nissan? Will they have the same thread?

I'd appreciate your response. Thank you!

Answer
Norlyn,

While this is not my area of expertise, I do know how to search for information.

I found out that your Nissan has a lug bolt that is a 12mm X 1.25 - which means it is 12mm in diameter with a thread pitch 0f 1.25mm.

The Mazda uses a 12mm X 1.50 - so, no, the lug nuts would be different.

Call Tire Rack and see if you can get some special thin lug nuts.  I have seen such animals - and they sometimes require special sockets.
