Tires: 2006 Ford F-150 rim change, ford f 150, aluminum rims

Question
Hello Barry, I own a 2006 Ford F-150 XLT extended cab 4x4. It came with 17" Ford steel rims with 235/75/17 tires(specified on the pillar post). I put the cart before the horse and purchased a set of 18" original Ford aluminum rims that I was going to use instead. The closest tire sizes that I can tell would be close are 275/65/18 or 265/65/18. The aren't a perfect match in height for the 17's. Is it safe to do this? Can the electronics of the truck be calibrated to make the switch? If it will mean that the truck would be unsafe or will ruin the drive train, I will just sell them. One more thing, I do tow a 4500lb. travel trailer in the summer months, so that would be a factor too. Thanks for the help.

Answer
Mark,

According to Tire Guides, certain 2006 F-150's came with either 275/65R18's or 265/60R18's, so it sounds like either of the 2 choices you've proposed would work.

As for as the electronics - well, that's more of a vehicle question - and I can't answer that as it is vehicle specific.

Also, you need to find out what Ford says the towing capacity is for your truck.  If you are towing within those limits, then those tires choices would work.
