Tires: tire or rim sizing, light truck tires, rim widths

Question
I have set of 16x8 rims and a set ot 235/70/16 tires and would like to know if they are same to mount together? Thanks u for your help.

Answer
Dear CJ,
I cannot tell you with certainty if the 16X8 rims are suitable for the tire size you listed.  The reason for this is that there are MANY different 16" rim configurations on the market; some for passenger tires, some for light truck tires.  Mis-matching wheels (passenger tires on light truck wheels for example) can lead to tire damage and possible tire failures). If you are in doubt, bring the wheel to a tire or wheel professional. I can only tell you that every tire size has an "approved" range of rim widths that it may be mounted on.  In the case of (P)235/70R16, The Tire and Rim Assn. allows 6.0"J through 8.0"J rim width.  The letter 'J' refers to the rim flange contour for passenger tire fitment as established by International standards (ISO).
Hope this helps!
