Tires: tire pressure, chevrolet silverado 2500hd, chevrolet silverado

Question
I have a 2005 chevrolet silverado 2500hd and just recently changed tires from the original 245 75r 16 to 265 75r 16. The door sticker recommends 55psi in the front and 80 psi in the back for the originals.  The tire dealer left all 4 tires at 65 psi. My bed is usually empty.  what is the new tire pressure I should be using on the new size tires?

Answer
Robert,

First step is to check to make sure the letters "LT" are in front of the new tire size.  If they have a "P" or nothing at all, then immediately go back to the tire dealer and get them replaced with LT metrics.

Assuming they are "LT". then you could use as low as 45 / 65.

But there is one other issue.  I think all trucks of this tyoe have steel 6 1/2" wide rims and that means the LT265/75R16 is too wide.  This may result in the tread face arching and causing an instability that will comes out as following the ruts and grooves in the pavement and sensitivity to side wind.
