Tires: tires, runout, asymmetrical

Question
what is a directional tire?
Can you also explain match mounting?

Answer
Twanna,

A directional tire is a tire that is designed to work better in one direction of rotation - typically to improve wet traction.  These ALWAYS have an arrow on the sidewall indication the direction of rotation.

Be careful as many people confuse directional with asymmetrical where the tire has a "this side out" note on the sidewall.  Asymmetrical tires have different pattern from one side to the other and they are designed to improve some property, such as wear / traction.

Match mounting is orienting the tire relative to the wheel to reduce the amount of runout of the entire assembly.  This is not the same as balancing.
