Tires: Balancing Tires, 2005 hyundai sonata, balancing tires

Question
I have a 2005 Hyundai Sonata LX with about 8,000 miles on the odometer. I had the tires (original equipment) rotated at 6,000 miles. I recently obtained a copy of the dealer's "Factory Maintenance Schedule for Hyundai Cars (gasoline)", and it recommended that the tires also be balanced every 12,000 miles. I always have my tires rotated every 6,000 miles, and thought that tires (wheels?) should be balanced only when anything unusual is noticed while driving the vehicle. I would like to know if this 12,000 mile balance interval is necessary, or is it just another attempt by the dealer to make money.  Also, they suggest that the "rear brakes be adjusted and cleaned" every 6,000 miles. I never had this "maintenance" done before. Is it necessary? The car does not have ABS brakes. If I do not have these things done, will it void the manufacturer's warranty? Many thanks.

Answer
Alan,

I don't think either of the 2 items are "necessary", but they were included in the maintenance schedule by Hyundai (not the dealer) because these types of things prevent problems.  (I'm assuming you are certain that this is a "factory" schedule, and not something the dealer made up and labeled it as "factory".)

I don't think it would void the warranty not to perform these things, basically because vehicle warranties generally don't cover wear items such as tires and brakes, so there isn't any warranty to void.

Hope this helps.
