Tires: Tire size for 2000 Ford pickup F150, hey carol, ford pickup

Question
I have 235-70-SR16 tires on my supercab F150, and a chance to purchase 4 brand new tires that are 255-75-R16 at a very good price. Will they fit, will they affect anything either adversely or in a good way? I am interested in safety, gas mieleage, etc.

Answer
Hey Carol
Thats a good bit bigger than what you have. It's about 10% bigger.  Meaning that when your speedo reads 60mph you are really going 66mph. I don't think there would be a problem with clearance but it's hard to tell without putting them on.  You should be able to have the dealer recalabrate the computer for the larger size.  Thats what I did on the 2003 Silverado I have.  I did not go as big as you are, but I know people that have on a Chevy without problems.
