Tires: aspect ratio increase, honda odyssey, impact resistance

Question
Can you go up in aspect ratio?
What are the effects:
    Speedometer
    Load Capabilities
    Danger/Handling

I have a Honda Odyssey I want to put slightly tougher tires on that only come in 225/65r16 as opposed to the standard 225/60r16

thanks

Answer
Chris,

I'm not sure what the purpose in changing tire size is, so it's difficult to explain if you'll accomplish your objective.

Going up in aspect ratio (60-->65) and keeping everything else the same - Increases the load capacity, increases the impact resistance, hurts the fuel economy, improves the ride harshness, introduces more error to the speedometer/odometer (about 8%), increases the center of gravity (and therefore the tendancy to tip over), but just changing tires will have some of the same effects and it's possible to cancel out some of the improvements/degradations by careful tire selection.

In this case, an increase in aspect ratio is probably not going to result in anything rubbing.  You need to check this thoroughly before purchasing tires.  Don't forget the worst condition is fully compressed/fully turned.  But overall this sounds like a good idea.
