Answer
Darren,

Thanks for the question.

All I know about the Yamaha TTR-225 is that it is a well-regarded trail/enduro bike and should not be too small for you. Even though it's "only" a 225cc bike, it's plenty big enough -and powerful enough- for a beginner to intermediate rider of your size. It has a lower seat than the 250 model, which is good if you are a beginner, as that makes it easier to get your feet down and to control the bike at low speeds. Dirt bikes tend to be tall, so if the 250 seems too tall for you, then the 225 might be a better choice. It also has electric start, which is nice.

The 225 has decent brakes and a good engine, and should last a long time if you take care of it. If you are looking for a bike to ride on the street and dirt, keep in mind the 225 is not street legal even though it has a headlight and tail light. If you are looking for a street-legal bike, the XT-225 is Yamaha's only offering, and it's basically the TTR-225 with all the street-legal equipment (turnsignals and mirrors for the most part).

The Yamaha TTR-225 would be a good bike for you, and the price is good, but I'd go sit on one and make sure you are comfortable about getting your feet down. If the bike feels a bit short for you, maybe the 250 would be a better choice. If it feels just right, I'd recommend it.

Have fun, ride safe.
