Used Cars: 1996 Mitsubishi 3000 GT, mitsubishi dealership, mitsubishi dealerships

Question
I purchased my 1996 GT from a local dealer.  When I purchased he infored me that the abs light had come on.  Upon sealing the deal to purchase he agreed to fix this anti-lock issue assuming it was something minor.  He has had my car several times. I myself have taken it to the mitsubishi dealership to get them to diagnose the problem.  The dealership told me that it could be 1 or more of 3 things wrong including a whole new abs system.  When I took the car back to the local dealer he said they were crazy and said that it just needed a wheel speed sensor.  So he sent my car to one of his people to diagnose which side.  Upon picking my car up he informed me that he would have to order the part.  When I contacted him after a week he said that he's having a hard time figuring out how he's going to take care of this matter and offered to buy the car back from me.  I don't want to sell it back.  I told him to meet me in the middle on the cost of a new abs system and he was not willing to do this.

Answer
Well I understand both sides of this argument, but I think you are working with a dealer who is at least trying!  I can not tell you how many emails I have got from people, in similar situations, where they get absolutely NO assistance from a dealership.  This dealer has at least tried to help, and offering to buy the car back is about as much as you can ask for.  Those ABS systems for those cars are not cheap, and there is a reality that he did not make enough on the car to cover even half of one of those systems.  So, if you are not willing to sell him the car back, I think you need to just take care of this problem yourself, if you are dead set that it needs a complete system.  The Mitsubishi dealerships are paid well to tell you it needs the most expensive stuff possible, and I believe if this dealer you bought this from had access to somebody who could work on this car, he could probably get this fixed for a LOT cheaper than a Mitsubishi Dealership.  Just be glad you have a dealer at least trying to make things right, 99% of the time, this is not the case.
