Trucking: Local Car Hauler Company, california department of transportation, california dot

Question
Hello Bob, I have the opportunity to transport cars across Los Angeles for a repo agency, I have my dually and a few people interested in driving it, I just wanted to know, will I need to start a Trucking company to do this? If so what are the steps to getting it done? I would really appreciate your help on this one...

Answer
Hi Tenoa.

You'll probably have to get a California DOT number.  Contact the California Department of Transportation for information and help.  Once you have your DOT number, base plates and fuel sticker, then get insurance.  In a nutshell, if your hauling cars commercially, you'll have to start your own trucking company.  If you have the connections for work, your 75% home.

Good luck!
