Trucking: company not paying what can i do, interstate commerce commission, cdl license

Question
i started working for a so called friend. small company out of brookshire,tx i drove an 18 wheeler for him for about a year and half. 3 TIMES did i see a price on my paper work of what the load payed. they would cover the price make a copy and give it to me. i requested the prices and they told me it was none of my business. i had no choice but to keep working because no other company would hire me because of my age. so then i got my own truck and was running hotshot with his gooseneck. agreed percentage pulling his trailer was %25. Still NO PRICES. will not give them to me. the last load i ran was from houston,tx to mass. 4200 mile round trip. load payed $6500 with an additional $499 fuel surcharge. i did not use his trailer infact i rented my own. he charged me %25, he took his percentage out of my fuel surcharge, and $699 for cashing in the invoice. my check was $3118. please help me here with what ever you can offer as far as advice i dont know what to do and im new at the business. i can only think of one reason why they wouldnt show me prices of what the load payed also. is there anything i can do? im sure if all files pulled everything could be proved. please, please i need help. thank you, Jeff

Answer
Hi Jeff,  1. The company is required by Federal Law to give you a copy of each bill of lading on each load that you hauled when being paid on percentages. This is a D O T law.
(That used to be Interstate Commerce Commission.) I would say contact them.  2. Contact the Department of Labor in your town or capital, Austin,  and they can help you collect.  3. If all else fails, contact a Lawyer that will take your case for a small percentage fee of what he collects.  You did not give your age, but as long as you are above 21, and have a CDL LICENSE, and a medical card,
you are qualified to drive interstate. Only some insurance companies require more age ,  usually 23 and 2 years experience. To run under his authority with all your
equipment, he should not have charged you more than 15 - 20 percent.    Let me know how you come out on my advice.
