Trucking: CDL, trucking companies, perfect health

Question
Hi,

I'm 52 years old and want to do something different for work.

First, I am in perfect health, do you think my age will be a problem for driving trucks.

And, i am studying the CDL manual getting ready to get my license. But in order to take the driving part of the test you have the manual says to provide your own truck. How is this done since most people don't own trucks?

And, how do i learn to drive a tractor trailer. do i have to go to school for that? how much will that cost and how long will it take?

Thanks,

_PHIL

Answer
Hi Phil,  No, you are not too old to learn and drive a truck.  For training, check with your local tech colleges to see if they have training classes.  If not contact some of the larger trucking companies for classes.  Most of the large companies have training free if you agree to drive with them for a period of time. If you take training, they will provide a truck and go with you to take the test.
Many companies have info on their websites. Try "J R England" for example.  "Swift" is another company. Good luck.  J P Long,  my web: www.longdataser.com
