Truck Repair: wont start, powerstroke fuel

Question
i have a 1995 7.3 powerstroke i just put new injectors in and after i put in the injectors it ran fine until the turbo went then i replaced the turbo with a 1.00 garret quickspool turbo but now the engine will turn over and run with full throttle but wont idle and wont move. soon as i put it in gear the engine dies. the whole time it is smoking a greyish white color. i dont know what else to do to this thing.

Answer
Hi Jesse,

White smoke is a sign of unburnt fuel, which means it is getting way too much fuel. double check all related components from your turbo install...maybe there is a sensor unplugged. Also, is the CEL(check engine light) on when it is running? If so have the code downloaded...this may give you an idea where to start looking. Also, verify that you have the right turbo and the right injectors, it is possible that the computer is trying to compensate for the wrong amount of air and causing the engine to go to full fuel(which could be why it only runs at full throttle) It is also possible your injectors are leaking fuel past the o-rings, double check them. (When troubleshooting always follow these steps:

Verify complaint
Gather information (learn how the system works that you are trying to troubleshoot ie.manuals...etc.)

Test each component in the system for operation (sensors, wiring,.....etc.)
Repair inoperative component
Verify repair

Hopefully this will help you figure it out, also try phoning your local dealer (Ford or International) and ask to speak with the shop foreman or lead hand. Usually they are pretty helpful.

Good luck,

Matt
