Truck Repair: Cummins n-855-c missing/knock, exhast, fan assembly

Question
Cliff,
I have a Komatsu D65-6 Dozer with a 1987 Cummins n-855-c non turbo. We had a fan assembly failure and it cracked the rocker box so we replaced it with a salvaged one. Now the machine sounds as if it is missing or "non mechanical" knocking when under load . We set the valves as best we could using the specs on the engine tag it said 0.023 in the spot next to valve settings. We didnt adjust the injector. Could the knock/miss sound be the injector? Ive read your other comments on adusting the valves for a nt 855 at .014 intake and 0.027 exhast did I mess it up. Please set me strait
Thanks Russ

Answer
Should be Int 0.011 & Exh 0.023.Depending on what type of injector you have is to how you set it.If the spring is protruding ABOVE the inj body you adjust it it 60 in lbs & then set the valves. If it is below the inj body then it is 6 in lbs.But I would have to explain it better if I knew which inj it has.
Let me know which injs you have & Ill tell you how to run overhead.
