Truck Repair: Truck Maintenance carreer, many different things, two different ways

Hello Eric,

I am considering a career in maintaining heavy trucks. I enjoys all things mechanical and was wondering what advive would you give to someone entering this field ?

Any training recommendations ?

You can go two different ways --- school or real world experience ---

If you choose school it will take quiet some time to get a degree and then get a job.

If you choose real world experience - you should look for a company that will hire you to do PM and maintenance work -- do that for a couple of years and you will gain as much if not more usuable information and experience as you would going to college.


I recommend finding a company that do does work on trucks that are OTR vehicles -- not Fleet Maintenance -- you will experience many different things and this will better prepare you for the ever changing field.
