Truck Repair: 1980 Ford F250, driveline components, solenoid valves

Question
I am building a rock crawler/trail rig. I have come across a 1980 F250 minus motor (460ci). I am trying to find out what the driveline components are under this truck? They are stock 8-lug axles, the rear seems to be a Dana 60--is the front a D-60 also? and the tranny is a 4-sp manual--Np435? I know info is vague, but I believe owner knows less than I and the vehicle is sitting on the hubs in a field, so I cannot see markings on diffs to know for myself. Thanks in advance
Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,
The rear may well be a Dana 60, which I believe is a locker, but I'm not positive.
The front should be the same gear ratio, but I have neven known them to put a locker on the front of a stock vehicle. That would really hurt if it locked when you needed to turn.
That's not to say it wouldn't be a great idea for a rock climber though.
I just saw something on TV this morning, where they were installing an electrically controlled locker in the rear of a Mustang. A switch controlled locker on each end would be dynamite on a rock climber, as well as solenoid valves to control the brake fluid on each wheel.

Are you sure it is the tranny that is a NP435? That sounds more like the transfer case number to me.
But I am going to send you some cool links....check them all out.
