Truck Repair: n 14 main and rods, low oil pressure, pan gasket

sir;I pulled down a pan to replace a pan gasket at my place of employment.I suggested to my boss while we have the pan off we should check the main and rod bearings.I work for the space program and we run these gen-sets for monthes at a time.This unit had 8000 hour on it.He came back with no it would hurt or ruin the bearings if you remove them.Do you know what the time limit is to check the main and rods.and would that be something you would do while removing a pan.thankyou so much for your time.

Some people want them checked or replaced at certain milage/hours.We only check them if coolant or fuel gets into the oil or turbo failure were a low oil pressure fault occurs.If properly maintained and none of the above conditions happen,run unit until time for a rebuild.
