Truck Repair: FORD VALVE ADJ, push rod, bottem

Question
What is the proper method to check valve lash clearance for 1993 302/ho Have installed new cam & lifters. My repair manual isn't any help. Can i use old 1 valve bottem out other closed method i used on diesels and older fords?

Answer
Hello H.A.
The closest manual I have is for 1991.
It gives a proceedure for bleeding out the tappets and colapsing them, measuring clearance between tappet and valve stem, and if the clearance isn't within spec, use a shorter or longer push rod.
It gives the proceedure for which to check when, but they are all when the respective valves are closed.
The allowable clearance with lifters collapsed is
.071 - .193

The desired clearance is .096 - .165

That is from a 1991 Mitchell Manual.

Good luck,
Van
