Truck Repair: Chevy PU wont start, engine cranks, chevy v6

Question
My 1997 chevy V6 PU won't start.
The starter has been going bad for several weeks.  Today the engine cranks but will not start.  The gas tank is half full.  I've heard that a bad starter can cause other electical problems.  Any suggestions on what to look for?

Answer
Hi Bill,
If you have reason to believe your starter is bad, then I would suggest getting a new one, and replacing it.
Be sure your indexing lug is in the correct place on the solenoid when you connect the battery cable to it.
Then make sure your battery connections are metal-to-metal clean, and tight. Both ends...both cables.

After that, you will need to check for fuel, and spark.
But don't worry about other possible problems till you know you have some.
