Truck Repair: High Oil Pressure, low oil pressure, cummins diesel

Question
I have an 03 Dodge 3500 auto with the Cummins Diesel. After the second oil change I have noticed at start-up that the oil pressure is past the normal level and approaching the end of scale on the gauge. After warm up the oil pressure is fine. I used 0W-30 and a Dodge filter and am worried that the bypass in the filter may open at this pressure sending unfiltered oil to the motor. Should I be concerned or is this normal during the colder months?

Thanks,

Answer
I have not worked on many new ISB engines since they are only a year old.The 91 & up to the new comman rail fuel system had LOTS of oil pressure when cold.Like it had 75 PSI at idle cold.We have had very, very few low oil pressure complaints form any B  or C series engines. And just so you know the oil filter bypass valve only opens when there is a BIG pressure difference from incoming oil to the filter & filtered oil out of the filter so oil pressure will not have any effect on the by-pass vavle unless there is a restriction somewhere to open it.AND you probablly want even know it is by passing the filter because the purpose of it is to make sure the engine has enough oil filtered or not to the engine for normal operation.
