Truck Repair: suspension, fernandina beach fl, shock absorber

Question
Van, thanks for your time first of all.
I have a 1989 GMC Truck, Serria 1500, 4 wheel drive, 350.
My son put a 3 inch body lift on it. Since then at
around 20-30mph the truck starts hopping or bouncing,  seems to be on the left front. I put new upper ball joints on, but that didn't take care of the problem.  It seems to be more violet
when I hit a bump in the road.  It doesn't do it all the time.  Can you please give me an opinion
of what you think the problem is.
Thanks for your help,
Jerry Fields

Answer
Hi Jerry,
Check the idler arm on the right side of the frame. If it has any up and down play, it won't do its job right, even with stock suspension, and if the angle was increased with the kit, it could be less efective.
Out of toe adjustment and out of balance tires can cause the hop, and once started will seem to get worse.
There may be a steering stabilizer available that looks like a shock absorber for the tie rod, that helps on older Chevys with big wheels, and the offset front hubs.
