Truck Repair: Rear End Question, water contamination, ford pickup

Question
Van,

I have a 1964 Ford pickup and am getting ready to travel about 350 miles to a Ford Truck show in May.  I was thinking of getting the lubricant in my rear end changed.

Is that something that should be changed or do you just keep adding when it is low?  I thought it would be a good idea to change it.  What is your opinion?  Thanks.

John DeMoss

Answer
If you check the condition of the oil, and no water contamination is evident, the oil will last for many years, but you won't hurt it by changing it.
There should be no need to add any when low, cause if it is getting low, there is a leak, which should be found and repaired.
