Vintage Cars: 1957 Golden Hawk, studebaker golden hawk, displacement engine

Question
Richard,
I read your 2010 article about the 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk being one of the early muscle cars.  I bought one from someone outside Chicago.  The 1956 Golden Hawk had the Packard 352 V-8 and the 1957-8 Golden Hawk had the 289 V-8 with a supercharger. Those cars have a fiberglass "dome" on the hood. Both engines produced 275 horsepower.
I like to tell people that my car's engine has more horsepower than a '57 Corvette with two 4-barrels.
Keep up with the good work!

Answer
Thanks! You could stretch the point by calling the late 30s Buick Model 50s as muscle cars - they had the big displacement engine from the series 80 cars in the small series 40 body. Muscle cars were all about stuffing the biggest engine you could find in the smallest, lightest body you made. You could call the 49 Olds 88s a muscle car as well, because they used the smallest body with the new Rocket V8.
