Vintage Cars: 64 SL230 VIN, mercedes benz classic center, hood latch

Hello, I have a '64 SL230 in fair condition. The VIN tag on the fire wall is difficult to read.

My questions are:
1# is there another location I can find the VIN number?
2# how many digits are there in the vin number?
3) where can I find all the original car details #paint, options, accessories, etc...) and historic data?

if it is a euro car , only other place  is hammered on frame rail in engine compartmentstamped and/ or in front of the radiator next to the hood latch
If it is US , should be one on drivers door frame, and post on drivers window side
Old VIN s have 14 digits I beleive as opposed to the 17 now

Contact Mercedes Benz Classic center ( do a goggle search ) they can help with the original information , you will need your VIN
