Vintage Cars: Window Removal, vent window, bottom of the glass

Question
I need to know how to remove the door glass in a 1979 vw convertable
Not a one of my manuals tells me how to do this
they are all about the older models
I am trying to replace the rubber and I need to remove the glass

My experience is mainly with Italian vehicles. However, I have dealt with many doors on many
different vehicles without a manual. Most seem to follow this program: remove the glass from
the regulator and let it drop gently to the bottom of the door then unbolt the side stays and
remove them to install new slides. The bottom of the glass will have a metal strip that is
captured by bolt(s). Some also have 2 holes drilled in the glass for thru bolts.  You may want
to unbolt the side supports before lowering the glass and sometimes the forward stay is
combined with the vent window and must be removed to remove the glass from the door for
glass replacement.
