Vintage Cars: Mercedes 500SE w126, 1985, mercedes 500se, fuel pressure regulator

Question
During half a year or even more, its ability to start when warm, especially on a hot summerday, has decreased, starting in cold wheather was not a problem. During some month, the fuel pump has become more and more noisy.
Now suddenly it is almost impossible to start when cold. It has ben tested, the fuelpressure should be ok as soon as the key has been turned on for a few secs. The battery are brand new, and the machine can be turned for a long period, it comes to a few attempts to ignite, some sick coughing, but nothing happens, until after maybe 10 min. and then it begins to cough a little more, and the engine starts up in a very bad way, sounds like only a few cylinders works, then after ½ a minute it become normal and the motor is running perfect, good acceleration and everything is perfect - until next morning, then it repeat! It has been fixed with 8 new injection inlets to the cylinders (I don't know the exact name)and a new fuel pressure regulator, without changing the symptoms at all.
Do you have any idea where to look for the origin of the problem? Thanks on beforehand, Torben

Answer
well these cars have a way to confuse.  First off make sure you are not getting any vacuum leaks ,these injection systems are vacuum dependent, and cannot have any leaks.  Look for worn or broken lines.  Are you sure you are getting fuel to the cylinders?  Have you pulled a plug , what does it look like?  Can you smell gas while this "trying to start" stuff  is goign on? When it starts what color is the exhaust?
Has the fuel pump and fuel filters been checked. It really sounds like a fuel delivery issue to me but without more information , it is hard to tell.  If the fuel pump was making noise , did you replace it? IS your gas cap vented ( could have a vapor lock).
Let me know some of this information .  How many miles on the car?
