Chassis

  • The fuel-injection engine -- whether the eight cylinder, 4.6-liter or the 10 cylinder, 6.8-liter -- is powered by a 120-amp gas alternator. This power is delivered to the wheels on one twin I-beam axle in the front and two semi-float axles in the rear. Traction is assisted with AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, sensor-guided technology that detects quick cornering and swerves in driving. To prevent the vehicle from rolling over, sensors will activate vehicle deceleration and reduce engine power for better steering stability. The 2011 E-Series E-350 XL Extended rides on heavy-duty shock absorbers and stops securely on a four-wheel disc anti-lock braking system.

Engine

  • The fuel-injection engines have cast-iron blocks, aluminum cylinder heads and stainless steel exhaust systems. Speed and pulling power differ, however, between the 5.4-liter V8 and the 6.8-liter V10 engines. The smaller of two has a gross horsepower of 255 at 4,500 revolutions per minute. The torque can manage 350 foot pounds at 2,500 rpm. The V10 engine has a gross hp of 350 at 4,250 rpm. The torque measurement 420 foot pounds at 3,250 rpm. The V8 engine has five main bearings while the larger has six. The smaller engine has 330 cubic inches of air and fuel intake displacement while the V10 has a 415 ci displacement.

Interior

  • Front-row passengers can expect 42 inches of head room, 68.1 inches of shoulder room and 65.6 inches of hip room. Due to expansive seats and a dip in the van ceiling, successive seats after the first row offer more hip and shoulder room but shorter head room. The fifth row offers the least room in all dimensions with 37.4 inches of head room, 67.5 inches of shoulder room and 37 inches of hip room in the smallest corner.
