The Mercedes Benz C200 Kompressor was a compact supercharged entry-level luxury car. The C200 is part of the C-Class Mercedes in production since 1993. Mercedes offered C200 Kompressor as a four-door sedan and five-door estate wagon. Mercedes offered a special appearance Limited Edition Sports Package option with the car. The Mercedes C200 CGI replaced the C200 Kompressor in 2010. The C200 models had the smallest engines of the C-Class lineup.
A supercharged 1.8-liter (1796-cubic-centimeter or 109.6-cubic-inch) in-line four-cylinder engine powered the 2007 through 2009 C200 Kompressor sedan. The engine featured a 2.23-inch cylinder bore and 3.35-inch stroke. The engine had a single overhead camshaft, overhead valves and four valves per cylinder for a total of 16 valves. It had a compression ratio of 8.50 to 1 and generated 181 horsepower and 184 foot-lbs. of torque, providing the Kompressor with quick acceleration. Some horsepower ratings pegged output at about 183 horsepower. The 2007 C200 Kompressor estate wagon in some markets had a 161-horsepower rating and developed 177 foot-lbs. of torque to achieve 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in a modest 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 142 mph. The wagon was capable of towing 3,306 lbs.
Mercedes placed the sedan and wagon on a 108.7-inch wheelbase. The sedan measured 180.4 inches long, while the wagon measured 178.8 inches long. The C200 Kompressor sedan measured 69.7 inches wide and 56.9 inches tall, and it had a curbside weight of 3,285 lbs. The fuel tank held 17.4 gallons. The 3,384-lb. wagon sold in the United Kingdom held 15.4 gallons. The wagon stood 57.8 inches tall and measured 68 inches wide. The wagon's cabin provided 16.6 cubic feet of cargo space and could seat five people. It had 38.2 inches of headroom and 45.1 inches of front legroom. The dimensions of the sedan remained virtually consistent with the wagon within 1 to 2 inches. The C200 Kompressor sat on 16-inch wheels and 205/55-R16 tires.
The C200 Kompressor's front suspension was an independent strut system with coil springs and anti-roll bar. The rear suspension featured a multilink system with coil springs and anti-roll bar. Stopping power came from all-wheel ventilated servo-assisted disc brakes.
The 2009 C200 Kompressor came with an optional sports package that included a matte silver finish and chrome accents on the grille, chrome accents on the front and rear bumpers, fog lamps, a lighted trunk handle, alloy wheels, low-profile tires, rear stowage compartment, fabric upholstery and body colors in Iridium Silver, Calcite White and Obsidian Black. Prices for the C-Class Limited Edition Sports Package began at about $60,000.
