How to Transfer a Florida Title to Ohio

When moving to the Buckeye State from the Sunshine State, transferring the title on your vehicle should be a priority. Luckily, the process is not complicated, but you will have to make a few stops along the way. You will also need to make sure you bring your original title, but don't fret if you don't have it. Your local Ohio county's clerk of courts may be able to help you obtain it.

Things You'll Need

  • Original certificate of title
  • Locate your nearest Ohio deputy registrar's office in order to get an out-of-state inspection performed on the vehicle. A list of deputy registrars can be found on the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles' website (www.bmv.ohio.gov). Any Ohio deputy registrar can perform the inspection. Some car dealerships can also perform the inspection.

  • Have the inspector fill out the required fields on the out-of-state inspection form. The check of your vehicle confirms the year, make and vehicle identification number. Complete the rest of the required fields on the form.

  • Locate the title office nearest to your home. If you are unsure where a title office is, contact the clerk of courts for your county. Some title offices are located within the clerk's office, while some counties have satellite offices.

  • Take the out-of-state inspection form to the title office along with the original title for the vehicle. Copies of the original title are not accepted. If there is a lien on the title, you will need to complete a request for the title at the title office.

  • Pay any fees to obtain your new title. Check with the clerk of courts to find out what the fees are for your county.
