How to Get a 1950 Chevrolet Truck Title

Your title is one of the most important pieces of paperwork regarding your vehicle. It upholds your claim that you're the owner and that this vehicle is yours to do with as you please. If you have an older vehicle, such as a 1950 Chevrolet truck, then you'll need the title in order to get any additional paperwork needed to make sure that your old truck is street legal and ready to drive.

Things You'll Need

  • Proof of ownership
  • Ask for the title to the truck when you purchase it. Signing over the title to the truck should have been a part of the original sale, whether the truck was purchased from a dealer or from an individual. If you subsequently lost the title, however, then you need to get a replacement title from your state's Department of Motor Vehicles.

  • Go to the DMV. Exactly what forms you need to fill out and which forms of identification you will need vary by state, so it's a good idea to simply go to your local office and ask what you'll need to get a replacement truck title. You should be able to take all the forms you need with you when you leave to fill them out at home.

  • Fill out all the forms and collect all the paperwork and identification you will need. A bill of sale usually is good enough proof that you own the truck, and a driver's license should be enough proof that you are who you say you are. But, as previously noted, you have to follow the rules and requirements of the state where you live.
