How to Arrange Gumpaste Calla Lilies

Gum paste, also known as sugar dough, provides crafters with a pliable and edible medium with which to make a variety of decorations. Arranging pre-made gum paste flowers, such as calla lilies, provides you with a decorative craft that results in a delicious arrangements of edible blooms. Whether you're making an edible floral arrangement or decorating a deliciously decorative cake, arranging gum paste calla lilies provides you a creative and tasty craft project.

Things You'll Need

  • 20 gum paste calla lilies
  • Assorted gum paste floral pieces
  • Iced cake
  • 5 baked phyllo dough sheets
  • Cream cheese icing
  • Small icing spatula
  • Scissors
  • Glass plate

Floral Cake

  • Snip the stems off six of the gum paste calla lilies. Leave only the sugary blossoms.

  • Arrange the calla lily blossoms in a circular pattern in the very center of the top of the frosted cake. Make sure all of the blossoms of the lilies are pointing outward, and the snipped edges all meet in the center of the circle.

  • Place a single gum paste calla lily along the side front of the cake, placing it in a diagonal position. Leave the stem on this flower.

  • Repeat step three with four more of the intact gum paste calla lilies, placing them around the sides of the cake. The frosting of the cake adheres the flowers easily.

Edible Arrangement

  • Lay a single square sheet of phyllo pastry on a glass plate.

  • Spread a thin layer of cream cheese frosting on the square's surface.

  • Construct an opened-top square with the remaining phyllo pastry squares, anchoring the edges into the cream cheese frosted base of the bottom square.

  • Place all 10 remaining gum paste calla lilies into the "box" allowing them to rest into the icing at the bottom of the base. The blossoms should lean to the sides of the box.

  • Place an assortment of small gum paste flowers for accent such as small tea roses and daisies. These can be purchased the same way the gum paste lilies are, at cake decorating shops and online retailers. This edible floral arrangement can be presented as a table centerpiece and be eaten as a dessert.
