How to Check Chevrolet Recalls

Thousands of vehicles are recalled each year because of unsafe or unstable vehicle conditions. In August 2010, more than 207,000 General Motors (GM) vehicles, manufacturer of Chevrolet vehicles, were recalled because of an improper latch of second-row seat belts. Consequently, even the most conscientious driver might experience anxiety while operating a vehicle. Fortunately, automobile owners can access resources alerting consumers about vehicle recalls.

  • Speak with a representative at your local Chevrolet dealer via phone or email. Inquire about any recent automobile parts or complete vehicle recalls. Most dealers require the year, make and model of the vehicle and sometimes the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to locate recall information.

  • Log on to Chevrolet's web page. Register your vehicle through General Motor's (GM) Chevrolet owner program online. This service provides recall notifications, car owner's manual access, vehicle maintenance and service reminders and other invaluable automobile updates.

  • Register your physical or email address with Chevrolet's customer mailing list. Many dealers send newsletters and other mailings containing coupons, special dealer-only events and other important vehicle updates, including recent recalls.

  • Contact the National Highway Safety Administration via phone or email. You can also log on to its website to view past and present automobile recalls. Before using this service, note your vehicle's year, make and model. This information is required to access recall data. Download and print vehicle search results for your personal records. More in-depth records, requiring additional research, are available for a fee.
